GLOUCESTER, MA--(Marketwire - March 25, 2008) -  Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates,
Inc. (NASDAQ: VSEA) today announced that the company plans to report its
fiscal 2008 second quarter results after the market closes on Thursday,
April 24, 2008.

A conference call to review the second quarter results and outlook for the
third quarter of fiscal 2008 is scheduled to follow at 5:30 PM Eastern time
that day.

A live webcast of the conference call will be publicly available on Varian
Semiconductor's website at www.vsea.com.  In addition to the live webcast,
replays will be available to the public on Varian Semiconductor's website
