Federal Reserve Bank

Federal Reserve Bank wraps up their two day meeting today and will be announcing their conclusion on interest rates at 2:15 p.m. EST; stocks were dropping as investors awaited the highly anticipated decision. (Read more at Millennium-Traders.Com)

Economic data released today:

MBA (Mortgage Bankers Association) Mortgage Applications:
U.S. MBA Market Index rose 12.8% at 668.5 compared to Last Week 592.8; U.S. MBA Purchase Index rose 5.6% at 288.3 compare to Last Week 272.9; U.S. MBA Refinance Index rose 17.4% at 2881.5 compared to Last Week 2454.5.

Crude Oil Inventories as reported by DOE (Department of Energy):
U.S. Crude Oil Stockpiles +2.855 million barrels at 335.608 million barrels; U.S. Crude Oil Stockpiles +2.855 million barrels in week; was seen -1.5 million barrels; U.S. Gasoline Stockpiles +5.409 million barrels at 213.109 million barrels; U.S. Gasoline Stockpiles +5.409 million barrels in week; was seen +0.4 million barrels; U.S. Distillate Stockpiles +2.961 million barrels at 170.754 million barrels; U.S. Distillate Stockpiles +2.961 million barrels in week; was seen +1.6 million barrels; U.S. Refineries Ran at 85.58% capacity versus 86.94% Week Ago; U.S. Refineries Ran at 85.58% capacity; was seen 86.20%.

Interest Rate Decision by FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee):
Voted 10-0 for Fed funds rate action; Fed leaves discount rate at 0.5%; economic activity has picked up, to remain weak for a time; to slow pace of mortgage security purchases, finish in 2010; repeats plan to finish treasury purchases in October; expects inflation to be subdued `for some time'; long-term inflation expectations stable; policy actions will support stronger economic growth; rates to stay `exceptionally low' for extended period; financial conditions, housing market have improved; consumer spending stabilizing, remains constrained; businesses cutting investment, staffing at slower pace; to use wide range of tools for growth, stable inflation; to evaluate timing, amounts of purchase programs.
