Daily Market Commentary for October 15, 2009

Goldman

Stocks continued their fall after Goldman Sachs and Citi Group released their third quarter earnings report, despite the large profit from Goldman. (Read more at Millennium-Traders.Com)

Economic data released today:

CPI [Consumer Price Index]:
U.S. September Consumer Prices rose 0.2% compared to consensus of an increase by 0.1%; U.S. September CPI Ex-Food & Energy rose 0.2%; compared to consensus of an increase by 0.1%; U.S. September CPI Unrounded rose 0.169%; Core rose 0.164%; U.S. September CPI Energy Prices rose 0.6%; Food Prices fell 0.1%.

Initial Jobless Claims:
U.S. Jobless Claims for week of October 10 fell 10K to 514K compared to survey of a decrease by 6K; Level Of New Jobless Claims Lowest Since Week Of January 3, 2009; U.S. Continuing Claims for week of October 3  fell 75K to 5,992,000; U.S. Jobless Claims Revised for week of October 3 to 524K from 521K; U.S. Real Average Weekly Earnings fell 0.4% in September.

New York Empire State Manufacturing Index:
New York Fed's October Manufacturing Index 34.57 versus 18.88 in September; New York Fed October New Orders 30.82 versus 19.84 in September; New York Fed October Employment 10.39 versus a decrease by 8.33 in September; New York Fed October Prices Received fell 5.19 versus a decrease by 3.57 in September.

Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing Index:
Philadelphia Fed October Business Index 11.5 versus September 14.1; Philadelphia Fed October Business Index Expected 12.0; Philadelphia Fed October Price Paid 21.3 versus September 14.9; Philadelphia Fed October Price Received fell 4.3 versus September decrease by 10.6; Philadelphia Fed October Employment fell 6.8 versus September decrease by 14.3; Philadelphia Fed October New Orders 6.2 versus September 3.3; Philadelphia Fed October Shipments 3.3 versus September 8.2; Philadelphia Fed October Delivery Times fell 9.3 versus September decrease by 8.9; Philadelphia Fed October Inventories fell 31.8 versus September decrease by 18.1.
