Daily Market Commentary for June 17, 2010

Unemployment Claims

First time unemployment claims fell unexpectedly last week, causing stocks to fall. (Read more at Millennium-Traders.Com)

Economic data released today:

CPI:
U.S. May CPI Energy Prices fell 2.9%; Food Prices Unchanged; U.S. May CPI Unrounded fell 0.163%; Core rose 0.122%; U.S. May CPI Excluding-Food & Energy rose 0.1; Compared to Consensus of an increase by 0.1%; U.S. May Consumer Prices fell 0.2%; Compared to Consensus of a decrease by 0.2%.

Initial Jobless Claims:
U.S. June 5 Week Jobless Claims Revised to 460K from 456K; U.S. June 5 Week Continuing Claims rose 88K to 4,571,000; U.S. Jobless Claims rose 12K to 472K in Week of June 12; Compared to Survey of a decrease by 6K; U.S. Real Average Weekly Earnings rose 0.8% in May.

Current Account:
U.S. 4Q Current Account Revised to Deficit of $100.9B versus a Deficit of $115.6B; U.S. 1Q Current Account Deficit $109.0B; Was Seen at a Deficit of $120.3B.

Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing Index:
Philadelphia Fed June Inventories 4.6 versus May decrease by 7.9; Philadelphia Fed June Delivery Times 6.8 versus May decrease by 1.2; Philadelphia Fed June Shipments 14.2 versus May 15.8; Philadelphia Fed June New Orders 9.0 versus May 6.1; Philadelphia Fed June Employment fell 1.5 versus May 3.2; Philadelphia Fed June Price Paid 10.0 versus May 35.5; Philadelphia Fed June Business Index Expected 21.0; Philadelphia Fed June Business Index 8.0 versus May 21.4.

U.S. Conference Board Leading Index (MoM):
May Lagging Index fell 0.1%; May Coincident Index rose 0.4%; May Leading Index rose 0.4%.
